This dashing star, son of the swashbuckler and ex- of Joan Crawford, appeared in many popular films of the 1930s and '40s ("The Prisoner of Zenda" and "Gunga Din" among them). The long-time wife of bandleader Phil Harris was a popular singer and actress in the 1930s and early '40s, appearing in "Alexander's Ragtime Band," "In Old Chicago," "Hello Frisco Hello" and many other films. IPS, 3½" X 5½", n.p., n.d. Fine. Glossy informal closeup, nicely inscribed and signed.

10. FERRER, Jose (1912-92). Inscribed Photograph Signed.
Academy Award-winning actor (for "Cyrano de Bergerac," 1950) better known for his stage performances, which earned him an astonishing five Tony Awards. IPS, 8" X 10", n.p., n.d. Near fine. Closeup printed portrait later in life, inscribed big and bold "For / Eirene / Jose Ferrer."

11. FERRER, Mel (1917-2008). Signature / Unsigned Photograph.
Audrey Hepburn's actor husband (1954-68) produced and directed several of her films; he appeared in such films as "Lili," "War and Peace" and "The Sun Also Rises" and on television in the series "Falcon Crest." Bold "Thank you!" and signature in blue ballpoint, heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p., 1985 October 19. Fine. With original envelope. Accompanied by a superb 7" X 9" black and white glossy publicity photograph depicting Ferrer playing Spanish artist "El Greco" in the ABC made-for-television 1966 movie by that name. Handsome signature and choice vintage image.

12. FFRANGCON-DAVIES, Gwen (1891-1992). Photograph Signed.
This British stage and film actress had a remarkable 80-year run, famed not only for being Sir John Gielgud's first Juliet but also for her performances as Eliza Doolittle and Cleopatra. Beautiful sepia tone PS, 3¼" X 5¼", n.p., n.d. [ca. 1930]. Fine. A stunning three-quarter length pose showing Ffrangcon-Davies seated in profile in an elaborate 19th century dress -- presumably a stage pose -- taken by reknowned British photographer YVONNE GREGORY (1889-1970) wife of noted photographer Bertram Park. Boldly inscribed and signed "Sincerely yours / Gwen Ffrangcon- / Davies" in black fountain pen along the blank bottom margin. A superb vintage example.

13. FIELDS, Gracie (1898-1979). Signature.
Beloved English music hall and night club performer and singer remembered for such hits as "The Biggest Aspidistra in the World"; she was knighted for her World War Two war efforts. Large handsome signature in blue ballpoint, heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p., 1970 September 11. Near fine. With original envelope.

14. FISKE, Minnie Maddern (1865-1932). Autograph Quotation Signed.
Called "One of the most potent forces in the American theatre for realism on the stage," this popular, prolific Victorian actress popularized intellectual playwrights such as Henrik Ibsen with her interpretations. AQS, heavy stock 4" X 2" card, n.p., n.y. [1896]. Very good. Mildly age toned; heavy mounting traces on verso. Bold "Be kind to all / dumb animals, defend / & protect them. / Minnie Maddern Fiske." Curious -- Fiske presumably was espousing some early animal rights cause.

British character actor, the picture of English reserve and dignity in "The Man Who Never Was," "Funny Face" and much more. Handsome signature and date (1982 August 20) on a heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p. Fine. With original envelope.

16. FONDA, Henry (1905-82). Signature and Inscription / Unsigned Photograph.
This Hollywood mainstay -- Jane and Peter's pop, Bridget's granddad -- excelled at portraying Average Joe heroic characters in such classics as "The Grapes of Wrath," and appeared in many memorable films such as "The Ox-Bow Incident" (1943), "Twelve Angry Men" (1957) and "On Golden Pond" (1981, for which he won an Oscar). Bold "To Donald / All Good Wishes / Henry Fonda" in thick blue fountain pen on an irregular, roughly oval-shaped 4" X 2½" slip, n.p., n.y. Good plus. In addition to add trimming, there are several small scotch tape stains at the edges, not affecting signature and only slightly touching the "T" in "To." Accompanied by a superb glossy 8" X 10" publicity photograph from the 1947 film "The Fugitive," a half-length portrait of Fonda in white shirt and tie gazing over the back of the chair in which he's seated. Despite condition and shape, a respectable signature example and a fabulous image.

English actress (Olivia de Havilland's sister) best known for the classic "Rebecca" and "Jane Eyre"; "Suspicion" (1941) earned her the best actress Oscar. PS, 8" X 11" archivally tipped to a larger acid-free matte board, n.p., n.d. Fine. Book photograph, a dramatic scene with Cary Grant from her Academy Award-winning performance in "Suspicion." Signed in a dark area, so contrast is only fair.

Legendary British-born stage star of countless productions with husband Alfred Lunt; occasionally made film appearances. PS, 7½" X 11" archivally tipped to a larger acid-free matte board, n.p., n.d. Very good. Book photograph showing Fontanne and Lunt costumed as an elderly couple from an unidentified play, nicely signed.

19. FOXE, Earle (1887-1973). Inscribed Photograph Signed.
American supporting actor who appeared in numerous silent films throughout the teens and 1920s, often playing a villain; survived the transition to "talkies" and appeared in many films of the 1930s and '40s, such as "My Darling Clementine." IPS, 7" X 9", n.., n.y. [ca. 1925]. Near fine. Heavy mounting traces on verso. Choice matte finish head-and-shoulders portrait (by Witzel studio, Hollywood) of a young Foxe in tuxedo and top hat, boldly inscribed and signed in blue fountain pen in a light area at lower right: "As Ever / Earle Foxe."

Hugely prolific director, producer and animator of "Looney Tunes" and countless other cartoons; won Emmys for "Halloween Is Grinch Night" (1978) and "The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat" (1982). Handsome signature in black ballpoint, heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p., 1989 February 5. Fine. With original (unsent) envelope, signed again with return address in Freleng's hand, and second, larger envelope also addressed in Freleng's hand. Nice trio.

24. GABLE, Kathleen Williams Capps de Alzaga Spreckels (1917-83). Inscribed Photograph Signed.
Clark Gable's last wife, the mother of his only legitimate (and posthumous) son, John Clark Gable, was a thrice-married former fashion model and bit part actress; a year after his death in 1960 she published a memoir, "Clark Gable: A Personal Portrait." Color IPS (magazine), 7" X 9½", n.p., 1961 [August 11]. Very good. Discreet scotch tape stains at two corners. Attractive color magazine portrait depicting Gable's widow in turquoise dress and matching headband seated in an oversize white wicker chair, holding the son born a few month's after her husband's death -- baby Gable holds both hands up as if in shock and has an expression of amazement on his face. She inscribes this in a thick fountain pen almost the same color as her turquoise outfit: "To Donald Burnell / Luck and happiness, / From / John Clark Gable and his Mother / Age 2 weeks 1961." Quite unusual in this form!

25. GARDNER, Ed (1905-63). Inscribed Photograph Signed.
This comedian and actor portrayed Archie on the popular radio show "Duffy's Tavern" (1941-51). IPS, 8" X 10", n.p., n.d. Fine. High quality, heavy stock matte finish closeup of a comic Gardner in bow tie and suspenders, nicely inscribed "To John / Best o' Luck / Ed 'Archie' Gardner."

26. GARLAND, Beverly (1926-2008). Signature / Unsigned Photograph.
On film, this actress played opposite Frank Sinatra in "The Desperate Hours," Lon Chaney Jr. in "The Alligator People" and Lee Marvin in "Medic" (for which she was Emmy-nominated); on television, she was the first female to play the lead role in the 1957 series "Decoy" (in which she portrayed t.v.'s first policewoman); but she will be remembered as Fred MacMurray's wife in "My Three Sons" (1969-72). Handsome signature in black fineline, heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p., 1993 March 4. Fine. With original envelope. Accompanied by a fine unsigned 10" X 8" glossy black and white photograph, an MCA TV reprint (ca. 1970) of a scene depicting Garland and co-star John Bromfield being held captive by savages in the cheesy 1957 adventure flick "Curucu, Beast of the Amazon."

27. GARSON, Greer (1908-96). Photograph Signed.
This Irish-born actress won an Oscar in 1942 for "Mrs. Miniver"; other appearances include "Goodbye Mr. Chips" and "Pride and Prejudice." Color PS, heavy stock 14" X 11", n.p., n.d. Very good. Mild bit of edgewear. A dramatic original color lobby card for the 1941 MGM film "Blossoms in the Dust" co-starring Walter Pidgeon, depicting Garson half-length giving a dramatic speech, a large crowd of men and women applauding behind her. Across her blue suit she signs large (6") and bold in black marker. Printed caption along bottom of card reads "I beg of you... don't handicap a child before it is born!" A delightful period piece, likely signed in the 1970s.

28. GASSMAN, Vittorio (1922-2000). Signature.
One of Shelley Winters' ex-husbands, this Italian actor and director appeared in "Bitter Rice" (1948), "Anna" (1951) and many other films. Large bold signature, heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p., 1984 October 18. Fine. With original envelope. Accompanied by a superb 10" X 8" glossy photograph depicting Gassman with Silvana Mangano in "The Great War."
